Just redownloaded it and tried a level out and I'm actually getting it a little more than I did last time I tried it.

I've been meaning to give this game another try in Android for a while, I'm a pretty big fan of TD games, but some some reason I found it hard to get into Bloons, or specifically Bloons 6 which I got a while back. While you explore all of this you're leveling up towers, saving up to buy+test new heroes, and leveling up the meta skill tree as well. And Normal mode on the Beginner maps feels similar. Or you can do the easiest alt modes on the beginner maps (Primary Monkeys Only and Deflation mode)Īll three of these pathways ease you into everything and are equally inviting, appealing, and balanced.Įasy mode on the harder maps is friendly but harder that Easy Mode on the beginner maps. Or you can do Normal difficulty on the Beginner maps. You start with Easy difficulty on Beginner maps, obviously.īut from there you can do Easy difficulty on Intermediate, Advance, and Expert maps. I think one of the things I like best about BTD6, now that I'm starting fresh on a new save, is how many options you have for progression and for ramping up the difficulty. It stops on round 40 which is when the first (and only) Blimp shows up as the final boss.ĥ8 maps can be played on Easy which is pretty wild. I mean it still is that if you play on Easy. I have enjoyed messed with freeze towers + mortar towers for example, which I never messed with much before. For a veteran easy is easy enough that you can plop down just about anything and win. Unlocking my various tower upgrades, experimenting with some of my least-used and least-liked towers from when I was really into the game a few years ago. I've had a blast working my way through all 58 maps on Easy so far on a fresh save file. TD6+ also earns the premium "monkey money" currency more quickly, allowing it to feel more like a natural progression path of its own as you use it to unlock cosmetics and monkey heroes. With all of that removed and Bloons TD6+ now being a "pure" IAP-free product, it's honestly a 10/10 video game with probably 100+ hours of gameplay in it, easily. You could pay to level up faster, or advance your skill tree faster. The base TD 6 game was never particularly nasty with its IAP but like a lot of mobile games it was still there, lurking in the background. It truly comes down to your personal taste and ingenuity how you want to deal with particularly nasty enemy combinations like camouflaged lead bloons.

The single best thing about Bloons TD6 is that every single monkey and every single upgrade path is viable and useful in specific situations. The 22 monkeys themselves all have 3 distinct upgrade paths that turn them into completely different units in how they look, how they behave, the enemy bloons they can pop, so there's really more like 66 options for building your defenses.
Although one nice touch is that the final-final challenge on each map disables these skill tree perks, forcing you to rely on your skill and strategy. The final few challenges on each map are so hard that you'll probably need to unlock some of the more powerful permanent perks from the skill tree to have a chance. Double enemy HP, half cash earned, reverse mode, and finally some ultra-hard final modes. In order to 100% each of the 58 maps there are 14 different modes and difficulties that must be completed for that map. Extensive community creation and community sharing tools, achievements, optional challenges, skill trees, the works. It now has 58 maps, 22 monkeys (towers) and a ridiculous number of modes, extras, and bonuses. Or it can be played just as a really polished and well-done tower defense game.īloons TD 6 has been available for $5 with IAP since June 2018 and has been continually updated in the four years since.

If you've never played it, Bloons TD 6 is one of those cute, "casual" games that it actually ridiculously complex under the hood and if you're so inclined there are reddit communities and wiki guides full of math and theory-crafting to let you go as nuts as you want.
